Admissions

Northampton School is a brand new, coeducational, 11-16 Free School which opened to Year 7 students in September 2023 as part of The NSB Trust.

It has been opened to meet the significant need for school places in the Northampton area, due to the growth in housing in and around Northampton and the subsequent increase in the number of students currently in the town and county’s primary schools.

Students of Northampton School will have the opportunity to automatically progress into the NSB Sixth Form when they finish Year 11 if the NSB School Sixth Form academic entry criteria are met.

All schools must have admissions arrangements in place that clearly set out how children will be admitted, including the criteria that will be applied if there are more applications than places available at the school.

Northampton School's Published Admission Number (PAN) will be 210 and, if oversubscribed, the School will offer 210 places in the following order in September 2025:

Oversubscription Criteria Criteria for September 2025 entry
1 Looked After and Previously Looked After Children
2 10% of the intake will be children eligible for Free School Meals or who have been eligible in the last 6 years
3 Children of members of Northampton School staff
4 Children who have older siblings at Northampton School for Boys or at Northampton School
5 10% of the intake will be children who have an aptitude for Performing Arts (Dance/Drama/Music) or for Sport
6 Children who live within the defined catchment area
7 All other children will be admitted by random allocation

The admissions arrangements for September 2025 entry to Northampton School were not consulted upon as there have been no changes to the September 2024 policy. The Admissions Policy was determined by Trustees on 14th February 2024.
