Careers Education

Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) – Northampton School

The purpose of Careers Education, Information, Advice and Guidance (CEIAG) at Northampton School  is to provide a whole-school and community approach that engages all students in Years 7 to 9 (with plans to extend to Key Stage 4) in learning about the world of work. Our programme aims to help students understand the opportunities available to them and develop the skills needed to make informed decisions about their futures.

Our Aims

We aim to help every student make confident, well-informed decisions about their future through a structured CEIAG programme. This programme supports students in taking charge of their own career development by:

  • Recognising their strengths and areas for improvement and reflecting on how these link to potential career paths.

  • Building effective decision-making skills to make thoughtful choices about future pathways.

  • Making connections between their subjects and the world of work, understanding how classroom learning relates to career opportunities and transferable skills.

  • Learning about the labour market and exploring post-16 and post-18 options, including apprenticeships, further education, higher education, and employment.

  • Knowing how to find and use trustworthy careers information to support informed decision-making.

  • Preparing for smooth transitions at key points in their education and beyond, such as moving to GCSEs, Post-16, or apprenticeships/employment.

  • Developing valuable work-related skills and experiences through enterprise activities, volunteering, work placements, and engagement with employers and organisations locally and nationally.

  • Accessing one-to-one personal guidance from a qualified Careers Adviser, ensuring students receive tailored support to make confident, well-informed decisions about their next steps.
